AI Visibility Score
A composite metric that rolls up mentions, citations, position, and sentiment into one visibility number.
What is AI Visibility Score?
An AI visibility score compresses several separate signals (how often a brand is mentioned, how it's positioned, how it's cited, and how it's described) into one number meant to summarize overall presence in AI-generated answers. A brand might be told it scores 62 out of 100, versus a competitor's 45, as shorthand for "more visible across tracked AI answers."
Why it matters
There is no single agreed formula: this is a vendor-defined composite metric, and different AI-visibility platforms, including Ranketta, weight mention frequency, citation count, answer position, sentiment, and share of voice against competitors differently, aggregated across AI surfaces such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews. Because each provider samples a different pool of prompts and applies its own weighting, absolute scores are not comparable across tools. Only the trend within a single tool over time is meaningful. Treat it as an industry-coined convenience metric rather than a standardized, audited measurement.
