What is Perplexity Shopping?
Perplexity Shopping refers to the product-discovery and purchasing features built into the Perplexity AI answer engine: asking a shopping-related question returns curated product cards with pricing, images, and reviews instead of a plain written answer, and Perplexity Pro subscribers can complete the purchase without leaving the app through a feature called "Buy with Pro." For example, asking for "the best waterproof hiking boots under $200" surfaces a short list of specific products a person can buy on the spot.
Why it matters
Perplexity introduced its shopping assistant ("Shop Like a Pro") in November 2024, and by 2026 the feature set includes "Buy with Pro" (one-click, in-app checkout for Pro subscribers with shipping costs covered by Perplexity rather than the merchant) plus "Snap to Shop," a visual search tool that identifies products from a photo taken in the mobile app. Perplexity also runs a free Merchant Program that lets sellers get better product indexing and in-chat checkout eligibility with no listing fees and no commission taken on sales, a notably different economic model from marketplaces that charge referral fees. By early 2026, Perplexity reported around 45 million monthly active users, and in February 2026 the company said it would deprioritize advertising in favor of investing further in shopping and Pro subscription growth.
