AI Share of Voice
Share of Voice measured specifically within AI-generated answers rather than traditional search or social media.
What is AI Share of Voice?
AI share of voice applies the classic share-of-voice concept specifically to AI-generated answers: it's the percentage of all brand mentions on a topic, within chatbot and AI search responses, that belong to one particular brand versus its competitors. If an AI assistant is asked ten different questions about running shoe brands and one company is named in six of those answers while three competitors split the rest, that company holds the largest AI share of voice for that topic, even if its traditional web search ranking looks different.
Why it matters
AI share of voice is an adaptation of the decades-old advertising metric to a new medium rather than a separate standardized measure, vendors typically calculate it as (a brand's mentions across a tracked set of AI prompts and models) ÷ (total mentions of all tracked brands across the same prompts) × 100, sometimes weighted by mention position or by whether the mention included a citation. Because AI answers can vary between models (GPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, etc.) and can change from one run to the next even for an identical prompt, AI share of voice is normally computed as an average across a batch of repeated prompts and multiple providers rather than a single measurement, and different vendors' tools can report meaningfully different numbers for the same brand because they track different prompt sets, model mixes, and mention-counting rules. Ranketta is one of the AI-visibility platforms that reports this figure directly, recalculating it each time it re-runs a brand's tracked prompt set across providers.
